Sayaka Takenaka reconstructs traditional design techniques of Japanese pottery into her own styles. Hand-carved stoneware series features delicate patterns of oriental motives such as chrysanthemums, lotus flowers, or arabesque, which shows the artist’s masterly skill of carving. On the other hand, her ceramic series is characteristic in its colourful overglaze enamels on the white background. They are relatively small pieces but have a gorgeous presence. Sayaka also studied Japanese painting after completing her degree in craft arts. She updates the decorative beauty of Japanese pottery to create ceramics that fit our contemporary life style by her deep knowledge in traditional Japanese art and highly-reliable techniques.
