Shinobu HASHIMOTO

Hokkaido-based potter Shinobu Hashimoto first sought to be a professional potter at the age of 30, when he taught himself all the basic pottery techniques. His pieces are produced in different series, each of which has an original style named by the artist as ’Hibikesho’ (Cracked Slip), ’Hibikuro’ (Black Crackle), or ’Akagane’ (Red Copper). The techniques of Hibikesho and Kurohibi which feature cracked patterns on the surface were accomplished after countless experiments repeated over many years. A number of processes are behind each pieces from these series. Hashimoto’s works are highly elaborate, but not too assertive. They delicately incorporate a sense of crisp and timeless elegance into your everyday life.
